The joy of less

Image
Every day we're exposed to a massive quantity of advertisements, a huge machine to keep people buying without thinking about. In general ads are focused on convincing us that the only way (or the fastest way) to be a successful and happiest person is buying. But are our purchases and a better life really linked? For many people the response is no but are they conscious about this? Do People know that accumulating things is not the answer for a better life? Francine Jay thinks that people need help to figure out this truth and get rid of every day's confusion. What to do? How to start? In the introduction of " The joy of less ", Jay starts with the concept of minimalism, the heart of the author's book. The objective is to get rid of prejudices and show that minimalism is not a cool artistic/rich trend but a way to live with less. Live with less may look like live as poor people but it's not the point. Live with less is to live with more space, physical

After you watch this animation your daily working routine is going to change!

Image
Every day is the same routine: wake up, take a shower, get dressed, have breakfast and go to the work. If we think a little, we are going to figure out that these operations are in automatic mode inside us. We don't ask ourselves if this routine makes us happy, if our work is helpful, if it agregates value for the human being or whether it is just bureaucracy. We don't think how our activities affect ourselves or the others. Does this make us satisfied? The animation 'THE EMPLOYMENT' won 103 prizes around the world and makes us reflect on this kind of things. Text Revision : Fatima from Idées  www.idees.com.br

Wind, an animation that plays with the challenges of life

Image
The human being is flexible. We're in the most inhospitable places as Antarctica or Atacama desert. We had fallen very deeply into the ocean and the human presence in space is continuous through the International Space Station. In this context the animation "Wind" by Robert Löbel draws attention. The animation talks about people that live in a place where the wind never stops. This characteristic causes a pressure under the citizens to adapt their lives. These adaptations make us impressed. 'Wind' is a creative and funny animation that can make us remember an old proverb: "Be as a bamboo that bends with the wind and doesn´t break" WIND from robert loebel on Vimeo . Is light speed so fast as we think?

Nothing in the nature is so fast as the light. It travels near 300,000 km in just one second, sufficient to go around the Earth eight times. For us, right here on Earth , it is very fast but if we consider the universe and its extraordinary size , may light speed be so fast as we think? This interesting video simulates a trip through the solar system as if we have been sitting under a light photon that just left the sun. This is an incredible example of how the referentials can change our perspective. Text Revision : Fatima from Idées  www.idees.com.br

How simple ideas can lead to scientific discoveries

Image
Many times simple ideas are a spark to great things, they might be for scientific discoveries or for personal meaning of life. In this TED's Ed presentation, Adam Savage from Mythbusters's tv program, talks about two spectacular examples of scientific discoveries that had been born from creative and intriguing questions that anyone could have made: the Earth circumference's calculus near 200 b.c. by Eratosthenes and the light speed measurement by Hippolyte Fizeau in 1849. The romantic comedy film Green Card

Image
When I heard 'romantic comedy' in general I imagine all the plot, the clichés and the final part. But Green Card movie , a 90's romantic comedy is a little different. Starred by Gérard Depardieu (as George) and Andie MacDowell (as Brontë) the movie tells us about the fake marriage between George and Brontë. The objective is for George to get the American Green Card and Bronte to rent an apartment. To deceive the imigration's officers they studied each other's life to pretend a marriage but they fell in love through the process. I liked specially the end because it's different from regular romantic comedies. Really it's an open end because the spectator doesn't know if the couple lives happily forever. A good tip to watch something light, fun but without clichés. Text Revision : Fatima from Idées  www.idees.com.br
